Affirmations for Manifesting Money, Love & Happiness
On the surface, manifestation appears to be a process you can use to bring more wealth, abundance, love, and success into your life. However, at its core, manifesting is using your thoughts and intuition to make deepest desires reality.
We’ve all spent a lifetime crafting a story about who we are and what we do. Deep within our subconscious, these thoughts (whether true or not) create beliefs, and in turn, beliefs create our reality.
If you want to change your life, you must change your mind. It’s the only thing totally in your control.
A belief is simply a thought that we’ve told ourselves – or been told by our friends, parents, and society – so many times it begins to feel like a truth. Thus, if we want to change our reality, we must use our thoughts to create new beliefs. And one of the easiest ways to do this is to use affirmations. Below I share how to create powerful, personal affirmations, and I provide examples of affirmations for manifesting money, love, and happiness. And if you want more information about what it means to manifest, check out this post.
What Are Affirmations?
By definition, affirmations are positive statements used to create self-change. They can serve as grand inspiration or as simple daily reminders. Regardless of their scale, they affirm the subconscious beliefs we hold about ourselves.
The word affirm comes from the Latin affirmare, meaning to make firm, strong, or solid. Thus, our thoughts and beliefs become firm or strong when repeated over and over. It’s like exercise for the brain – the more you practice, the stronger the area of your brain that creates beliefs will become.
While affirmations have long been the source of jokes about new age hippies and self-help gurus (who can forget Saturday Night Live’s Jack Handy: “I am good enough, I am smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like me”), science has proven that self-affirming thoughts activate systems in your brain that govern your wellbeing.
A National Institutes of Health study showed increased activity in key regions of the brain when participants used affirmations. Similarly a study by researchers at Carnegie Mellon suggests that self-affirmations actually buffer stress and improve problem-solving performance in underperforming and chronically stressed individuals.
The Role of Affirmations in Manifesting
The ability to believe is fundamental to the manifestation process. You can’t manifest anything if you don’t believe that you can; thus, the better you are at shaping your beliefs, the better you will become at manifesting.
Your world is created by your thoughts, so if you want to change your world, you must change your thoughts. For example, if you think all rich people are greedy, your brain responds to this belief and sabotages your own efforts to get rich in order to avoid being greedy.
In other words, you create your own reality. And if you want to live in a joyful, peaceful, and abundant world, you must become a master of positive thought. In the language of manifesting, this is Law of Attraction’s theory of vibration, which, when simplified, is the idea that “like attracts like.”
If you look at any solid matter under a microscope, you will see that it is not actually solid; rather, it is comprised of billions of particles vibrating at a specific frequency. Just as matter vibrates, so do your thoughts, which are simply waves of energy. Positive thoughts equal positive (high) vibration and negative thoughts vibrate at a low vibration. The Law of Attraction states if you want to attract positive things into your life, you need to raise your vibration. And one of the best ways to increase your positive (high) vibration is through Affirmations.
Using Affirmations to Manifest a New Reality
Our subconscious mind creates our reality. If our subconscious thinks and believes negatively, the resulting output will be negative. These negative, limiting beliefs keep us from reaching our full potential.
In order to start manifesting, we must release our limiting beliefs. If you believe that you will always live paycheck to paycheck, there is no room for new, higher vibrational thoughts to create a future in which you have a seven figure savings account. (Curious what your limiting beliefs are? Use my Identify & Release Limiting Thoughts Worksheet to identify the negative thoughts holding you back.)
Affirmations are our way of communicating with our subconscious. Through affirmations, we introduce positive thoughts into our subconscious that replace the negative thoughts dragging us down. When used consistently, over time the negative thought will be replaced by a positive thought, which then eventually becomes an ingrained belief.
Tips for Creating Effective Affirmations for Manifesting
Now that you understand the power of affirmations in manifesting, it’s time to write some of your own.
Effective affirmations are written in the first person and begin with “I am…” An example is “I am joyful and content.”
Affirmations should be expressed in the positive rather than the negative. “I am a healthy and fit 140 pounds” is a more effective affirmation than “I no longer eat when I am sad or bored.”
Affirmations are about your qualities rather than your material possessions. “I have a beautiful new vacation home” is not an effective affirmation. A better choice would be “My creative skills give me boundless financial freedom.”
Similarly, don’t use the phrase “I want,” as that only affirms your wanting of something. Rather than “I want a better job” say “I have a fulfilling and lucrative career that allows me to use my creative talents.”
Be specific when creating affirmations. “I earn a six-figure salary and work with a team of inspiring individuals” is much more effective than “I have a fulfilling and well-paid job.”
Affirmations should be expressed in the present rather than the future: “I have a fulfilling romantic love life” rather than “I will find my soulmate.” It’s ok if the affirmation isn’t totally true now. But it should be something you want to be true. For example, even if you think you could afford to lose a few pounds today, make the affirmation “I have a strong, beautiful body” and soon you will believe it.
Finally, don’t be afraid to dream big! No matter how impossible an affirmation may feel today, you will be surprised how quickly you begin to embrace the idea as you continue to repeat the affirmation.
How to Use Affirmations for Manifesting
Once you have a list of powerful, personal affirmations try the following exercises.
Exercise #1: The Post-Its
- Write your affirmations on post-it notes (one affirmation per post-it)
- Stick the post-it notes up in visible places around your house (on your vanity mirror, on your refrigerator, on your computer monitor, etc.)
Exercise #2: The Superhero
- Stand in front of a mirror, look yourself in the eyes, and repeat your affirmation 10 times
- Similarly, adopt a “superhero stance” (legs firmly planted in the ground, chest out, head up, fists raised above your head) and loudly state your affirmation several times, becoming more and more forceful each time
Exercise #3: Subconscious Imprinting
- Each night as you settle in to fall asleep, close your eyes and take several deep breaths, feeling into your body
- Let your mind settle, breathe in, and as you breathe out silently say one of your affirmations
- Repeat at least 5 times
